Queen Elizabeth National Park  
       
 
This is the second largest national park in Uganda and at 1978 sq. km it straddles the equator in the south west of Uganda. It is a world bio-sphere reserve (UNESCO 1979) and includes a RAMSAR wetland site and is classified an Important Bird Area (IBA) by Birdlife International. The park has 568 of Ugandas 1017 species of birds (over a quarter of Africas bird species) which is more than any other park in Africa. In the park you will see crater lakes filled with huge flocks of flamingos. You may also see eagles soaring and vultures perching. You will see lions relaxing, elephants ambling and giant forest hog snuffing. In its lakes you will see hippos swimming and colourful kingfisher darting. Any visitor to this park cannot fail to be amazed by the enormous diversity in each kingdom of creation. Its simply a visual feast.
 

 

 
 

Take a boat trip, a game drive, a woodland walk or simply enjoy the myriad of stunning views. This park is a must, providing and unforgettable and unique experience. One of the main attractions must be a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel along the shore of Lake Edward. This provides a unique vantage point for viewing savannah wildlife. The trip starts at Mweye along the Kazinga Channel , which joins Lake Edward and Lake George. This is the most exciting and memorable experience offered by the park. While on the trip expect to be thrilled by yawning hippos and a close up of water birds along the shores. In the southern part of the park is the Ishasha Sector with large numbers of tree climbing lions perched on the savannah fig trees. The concentration of game in this savannah setting, Lake Edward and River Ishasha flats, Ishhasha and riverine forest, Hippo Pool and Congo escarpment, provides splendid scenery. The park headquarters are located 64 kms. from Kasese which is 400 kms from Kampala-a six hour trip. Air charters are available to landing strips near the park. In the park are 66 species of mammals the main ones being: Hippotamus, leopard, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, topi, bushbucks, waterbucks, rare giant forest hogs, advarks, porcuopines, pangolins, bush pigs, waterhogs as well as lions, hyenas, civets etc. The Nile Crocodiles are to be seen along the Kazinga Channel and Lake Edward.
