When you try to make a survey about Uganda’s mostly visited Parks, it is undeniably Bwindi Impenetrable National Park cannot miss the list.

It is may not even be a surprise once listed as the top most visited park in Uganda – this is because it is home to variety of the World’s mostly wanted creatures “Mountain Gorillas”.

This hub for Mountain Gorilla trekking excursions is geographically located in the Western part of Uganda lieing along Uganda’s border with Democratic Republic of Congo.

Uganda is recorded with the highest percentage of Uganda’s remaining Gorilla population – taking up almost half of it.

This percentage inhabits the two Uganda’s Parks in the western part of Uganda but the biggest portion is housed in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

You can easily get to Bwindi from Kampala by two options including Road transport or air transport means.

By road – it takes about 8-9 hours for the drive via Kampala – Masaka – Mbarara highway. If not road, you can go by air transport means and private charters are arranged from Entebbe up to Kihihi airstrip in Kisoro.

Gorilla Trekking. This excursion grants travelers grand chances to meet with the Mountain Gorillas face to face in the Jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

It is done in a group and each group consists of eight individual trekkers along with the ranger guides.

Usually a briefing is first conducted at the park offices to advise trekkers on what to do and what not to do while in the Jungles or presence of Mountain Gorillas.

After, the journey to the jungle starts following the permanently established trails in search of these apes.

Locating them, you will be required to be in their presence for only one hour – see them while feeding, laughing, playing and you are free to take a lot of photos and videos.

After the one hour session, you are required to vacate the place. Time taken and distance covered depends on where these apes spent their last night.

While in the Jungle you are not only limited to Mountain Gorillas but you will be exposed to a range of Wildlife species including tree species, primates, reptiles, insects and different bird species.

Trekkers are advised to come with packed food and drinking water from the lodge –you will eat this as your lunch.

What’s required? Gorilla trekking is an adventure like no other and every one wish to be part of it once in a life time.

But to be part of it, you must be twenty years and above – a Gorilla permit is a must have and it is valid for use by one person in the respective dates.

Once the dates for this permit expire without use, then it’s not valid for use. This permit costs $700 USD per person – issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority and usually booked in advance.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is conducted in four sectors namely Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Rushaga sector – each sector with more than two habituated Gorilla families for trekking.

Therefore when booking the permit, you have to specify the sector. When you book through a local tour operator, they will advise on the most suitable sector depending on your age or the flow of the itinerary.

Best time to trek Gorillas. Considering climatic conditions – Uganda experiences two seasons including a rainy season and dry season.

Gorilla trekking is more comfortable and rewarding during the rainy season because in the rainy season you may be interrupted by rain drops and the trails in the Jungles are muddy and slippery.

Then considering the travelling season – For those who fancy crow free adventures then you have to time your trek during the low season – in the peak season there are a lot of travelers and the park is overcrowded.
